LaGuardia Airtrain Project, New York

“Visitors at LaGuardia Airport rely on congested roadway transportation as the airport currently lacks reliable mass transit options. An estimated 50% of LGA passengers travel to and from Manhattan and more than 25% to and from Midtown.”
LaGuardia Airport is a vital element of New York’s transportation infrastructure and requires more than roadways to offer travelers a safe and efficient commute. The Airtrain project is a proposed elevated railway line linking LaGuardia Airport to Willets Point along the existing Long Island Rail Road. The $450m project will provide a reliable commute for travelers and employees of LaGuardia and is a part of an $8b redevelopment program at the airport.
The Airtrain is scheduled to be in operation by 2022 and will handle approximately 6.6 million trips a year in 2025, and 8.4 million trips a year in 2045.
